How to Tile a Shower

Installing shower wall tiles is a great way to give your bathroom a new look. Whether you’re remodeling a bathroom or building a new one, this is a project that can be done by the DIYer with minimal tools and materials. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps needed to install shower wall tiles.

Gather the Necessary Tools and Materials

Before beginning any tile installation project, you’ll need to make sure you have all the necessary tools and materials to get the job done. This includes a notched trowel, a bucket, a sponge, a level, a rubber float, tile spacers, a wet saw, and of course, the tiles themselves. You’ll also need to buy the appropriate tile adhesive and grout for the job.

Prepare the Wall Surface

Once you have all the materials and tools you need, you’ll need to prepare the wall surface for the tile installation. This means removing any existing tiles, cleaning the wall surface, and making sure it is flat and level. If there are any imperfections in the wall, they should be filled and sanded down before starting the installation process.

Lay Out the Tiles

The next step is to lay out the tiles on the wall. This will help you determine the best placement of the tiles and make sure they are even and straight. Make sure to use the tile spacers to ensure uniform spacing between the tiles. When laying out the tiles, it is also important to measure the area to make sure you have enough tiles to cover the entire space.

Apply the Adhesive and Set the Tiles

Once the tiles are laid out, you can begin the process of applying the adhesive and setting the tiles. Start at the top of the wall and work your way down. Use the notched trowel to spread the adhesive evenly onto the wall. Then press each tile firmly into the adhesive and use the level to make sure they are even and straight. Once the tiles have been set, use the rubber float to smooth out any air pockets or uneven surfaces.

Grout the Tiles

The final step is to grout the tiles. Use the wet saw to cut off any excess grout. Then use a bucket of water and a sponge to remove any excess grout from the wall. Allow the grout to dry for 24 hours before using the shower. Once the grout is dry, your shower wall tile installation is complete!
